John Martin is counsel to the Washington D.C. firm of Marshall & White, PC, with more than twenty years’ experience in the areas of complex litigation and dispute resolution, federal and state regulatory actions, global supply chain and manufacturer (OEM) issues, fraud and anti-corruption compliance (and investigations), and multi-jurisdictional and cross-border actions. He routinely advises large, multi-national companies with their risk management and compliance policies, internal investigative actions and procedures, commercial and government claims/disputes, regulatory filings, financial and cost-control policies, and responses to civil and criminal actions.
Mr. Martin’s experience includes complex litigation, claims and regulatory work for two F250 law firms, Jones Day, LLP and Baker Hostetler, LLP, as well as expertise as an investigative and enforcement attorney for the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). He is recognized for his work with complicated claims, disputes and investigations, including those involving financial, supply chain and compliance issues. Mr. Martin has experience working with clients on actions across the globe and specializes in the strategic management and organization of investigative and legal teams. While at the SEC, he managed and pursued numerous complex investigations and national-priority cases in areas of accounting fraud, market manipulation, material condition disclosures, and other compliance issues.
Mr. Martin utilizes a “hands on” approach to all matters (whether large or small), in order to coordinate tasks efficiently, to provide “real time” assessments to stakeholders of litigation and claims matters, and to ensure clients adopt and disseminate “best practices” company-wide. It is not unusual for the firm to produce “white papers” on behalf of its clients as a result of John’s work.
He also provides training to clients on a wide array of compliance topics, including risk management, claims support and documentation, financial and accounting compliance, FCPA/OCI training, and even trainings tailored to specific companies and their cultures.
Prior to law school, Mr. Martin taught high school English and played professional baseball in France. He is proficient in French.
